Equine Photoshoot FAQs

Photoshoots aren’t an everyday occurrence, and whilst we photographers strive to unshroud the mystery that might surround a photoshoot, there’s still quite a lot of questions potential clients have. In this month’s blog, I’m answering my most frequently asked questions to help you feel more informed ahead of booking your shoot.

  1. What if my horse doesn’t behave?

No horse behaves foot perfect during their shoot, and I never expect them to be. I’ve gained a plethora of skills and tools to work with whatever your horse brings to the table on shoot day, methods that work gently with your horse’s mind, helping us to get the very best out of them whilst keeping them happy throughout.
I have an endless amount of patience working with animals, and with nearly a decade of shooting experience and a lifetime of equine experience, there’s no horse I can’t work with.
Your horse doesn’t have to be perfectly behaved on the day, they just have to be themselves.

  2. What if my horse doesn’t like the equipment?

Over the years, I’ve only had one horse I wasn’t able to shoot with my equipment, and that was a very special case where I didn’t really have the time I needed to help them settle.
I work with your horse’s mindset at the forefront of everything I do, and have tried and tested methods to help even the most nervous horse relax and accept the portable studio setup. We work at their pace and take as long as it takes.

  3. How long does a photoshoot take?

It varies, this all depends on your horse.
Some shoots are done within 45 minutes, others might take 2 hours. It’s all down to how your horse feels about the equipment, how easy they are to pose (some are more fiddly than others), how many breaks they need, etc.
Allow a maximum of 2 hours for your shoot, just in case.

  4. How much does a photoshoot cost?

Equine portrait shoots start at £199, dog shoots start at £95, with the option for you to choose how much you wish to spend on digital images and wall art. This gives you total control over how much you’d like to invest in your photoshoot.

  5. Why does a shoot cost this much?

There is a considerable amount of work that goes into each shoot, from communications before and after your shoot, to the time it takes to capture those stunning images of your beloved horse or dog, to the hand selecting and editing of those images. I also only serve an exclusive number of clients each month, each shoot takes a lot of energy to provide such a level of service, so I can only deliver to a select number of clients whilst maintaining such a high level of service.
