Why Autumn is my favourite season to shoot in

My favourite time of year is finally here! I can embrace my cosy wooly jumpers, drink tea without sweating, and absorb all the gorgeous colours as the sun rises on my morning walk.

And autumn isn’t just my favourite season for all of those reasons, I love it because it’s also a stunning time of year for shoots, whether you want to have your dog’s portrait or your horse’s portrait taken, this is possibly THE BEST time of year to have it done.

Firstly, let’s talk about the main event: The colours! A natural backdrop of autumnal oranges, reds, browns, yellows, and a hint of soft green, adds the most beautiful range of colours to shoot your horse or dog in front of.
It adds a layer of warmth with a perfect pop of colour which always compliments every subject, no matter what colour they are.
This time of year is the best time to shoot in forests or under trees to get the biggest impact with the colours.

Secondly, our horse’s coats; they’re either just darkening, getting those lovely rich tones that come through as the coat changes (My boy gets the loveliest colours in his winter coat, he’s a totally different tone in summer vs. winter.) Or if yours is one to grow their coat fast and needs clipping, clipped horses always look super smart for their portraits.
No matter if they have a full coat or a clipped coat, the off camera flash I use will bring out the glorious shine that they have.

Thirdly, it’s the perfect amount of time ahead of the festive season that you’ll be able to either have a shoot done as a Christmas present, or be able to ask for wall art from loved ones as your own Christmas gift (Lots of my clients love to do this!).
The closer we get to Christmas, the busier I tend to get, with last minute shoots, orders going out as gifts, gift vouchers, the whole shebang. When you get your shoot done in the autumn, there’s enough time that I can have your images ready, plus wall art orders handled, in good time for you.

So if you’re getting a loved one’s horse or dog photographed in secret to deliver the most incredible Christmas gift to them, or if you want to ask for wall art as a Christmas gift, then an autumn shoot makes all of this possible.

What are you waiting for then? Get your autumn shoot booked today and have some gorgeous images amongst those stunning colours we all love.
