Honouring our golden oldies

The heartbreaking thing about owning horses, especially when you’ve had the pleasure of owning a particular equine for a number of years, is that time eventually catches up to them.
Their joints don’t move as smoothly as they used to, their hard worked backs begin to sway, grey hairs appear when colour once was, age is something none of us can avoid.

Making the decision to retire them is never an easy one, and unfortunately one day we have to make that unbearable final decision. No matter how much we wish it, our horses won’t be with us forever.

So when I get an enquiry from a client asking for a photoshoot for their elderly horse, my heart swells a little more. Shoots are always a special occasion, but when it’s capturing a beloved elderly equine, it feels even more special.

Last month I had just that, a client with not one, but two older horses, past their prime but still deeply loved with a glorious summer shine to their coats. I absoloutely loved shooting portraits of these two, knowing that I would be creating memorable images that would be surely cherished.

It was a pleasure to hear of their life stories, what they’d been through, the experiences their owner had shared with them, the connection these two had with their human was obvious.

I’ll share a little of what we created in this blog so you can appreciate this gorgeous pair as much as I did.

I understand that actually getting around to booking the shoot for your older equines is one of those things we keep meaning to do - We had an old pony from when me and my siblings were kids that we had to say goodbye to 2 years ago. I kept meaning to photograph him but never got around to it, and I very much regret that.

It’s why this month I’m running a Golden Oldies offer, to encourage you to book in your dear retiree in for their portrait shoot before it’s too late, and I chose this month specifically because it’s generally the time of year when our oldies are looking pretty good. They’ve lost their winter woolies, the spring grass has filled them out a little after a hard winter, and they’ve got that lovely summer shine on their coats.

So this month if you get in touch to book a shoot, you’ll receive a FREE 3-in-1 mini album worth "£275 with your shoot, to commemorate you favourite OAP.
These albums are a wonderful keepsake and give you 3 matte printed 8”x 8” images of your horse in a beautiful leatherette case. They freestand so can be place anywhere around the home for you to enjoy - imagine sitting at your desk and seeing your horse each time you glance over, or sitting it on a window sill and smiling each time your eyes cast over those photos.

Our elderly horses are so special to us, take it from someone who’s owned a number over the years. The memories you have with them are so special, they owe you nothing, and you’ll always be telling people your favourite stories about them, even long after they’re gone.
Treasure them a little more with the portrait shoot you know they deserve, honour them in a way that will always bring you joy and warmth, book that shoot before you don’t have the time left.

This offer is open to any horse or pony aged 16 or older, applies to one horse per shoot only, and can be claimed any time before 30th June.

If you’d like to make the most of this offer and get your golden oldie booked in for their shoot, click here and selected the 3-in-1 mini album add on to any equine portrait shoot package.
